I think we are talking about two different things here. If a teacher
checks a book out for the classroom, and it comes up missing or damaged,
then it is just good PR to write it off, but this teacher took the book
home (I assume that her dog is not allowed in school) and left it within
reach of her dog. How can this be anything other than her responsibility?
Honestly, it wouldn't have occurred to me not to charge her. I suppose if
she's going to make a stink about paying, it might be better to let it go
in the long run, but I am guessing that she fessed up with the expectation
that she'll have to pay. I would at least ASK.

Just my 2 cents.
