Sorry for the delay in posting a hit. I had messages at work and at = home and needed to combine them first. I decided to go with the small = handheld one Earl Moniz suggested from Radio Shack. He even sent me a = picture, but since I don't know if the list can accept them, I will = leave that part out. L. Elaine Willis, EdD Media Specialist Irwin County Middle/High School Ocilla, GA drewillis@planttel.net (home) ewillis@irwin.k12.ga.us (work) *************************************************************************= **************************** Elaine, it is called a bulk eraser... it is simply a huge electromagnet. You = plug it in and push the button and it spins a big magnet inside creating = a magnetic field... you just pass the thing over the videos you want to = erase, and they are! Be very careful where you store it when you don't use it... could prove = to be costly - erasing things you don't intend to! Later... Earl J. Earl J. Moniz (just an old Maui boy) USA JFK SWCS Marquat Memorial Library Fort Bragg, North Carolina=20 Elaine, I did some hunting for you... Radio Shack has one for sale... They may not have them in stock - so make sure you ask for the catalog = number ... 44-233. Good luck... Bulk Eraser 36.99 Reg. Price Brand: Cat.#: 44-233=20 Earl J. Moniz (just an old Maui boy) USA JFK SWCS Marquat Memorial Library Fort Bragg, North Carolina=20 the most efficient was is to simply tape over them . Taping over them automatically erases anything . Leda Ansbro=20 OLL School=20 Richmond, VA It is a giant magnet that is electric. I ordered one from Highsmith = years ago and finally literally burned it up one day of heavy erasing-it was literally smoking! Ann Haines Librarian RET ahaines2@mindspring.com Our school purchased a bulk tape eraser from NATIONAL AUDIO-Visual = Supply. Don't get a small one. You have to repeat the steps numerous time if = you do. Bigger is better in this case. I would pay $350 to $500 plus. Holm Charlotte <Charlotte_Holm@pac.odedodea.edu> You are looking for a "de-gausser" which is a large electromagnet that = you plug in, rub the videotapes around the top of it, and voila the = tapes are completely erased. I don't know how much they are but I used = to work in a video production house and we had one. The one we had was = about the size of a turntable and one swipe of a videotape was all it = took. HTH Susan K. S. Grigsby, LMS Virtual Reference Desk Volunteer Midvale Elementary, DeKalb County, Georgia skg0577@dcss.dekalb.k12.ga.us We use a giant magnetic video eraser. It costs less than $100 and is very quick. You just hold the magnet over the video and zap it. --=20 Bonnie Harrison Director of Media Services Douglas School District Box Elder, SD 57719 bharrison@patriot.dsdk12.net IT's called a bulk tape eraser, and you can get one at Radio Shack for about $25.
