Given Jo-anne's post of earlier today about the ad asking if you would take
health advice from a 16 year-old post, I thought you might like this from
Ken Vesey which he recently posted to another list....

Subject: [IASL-LINK] The beauty of the Internet

Great quote from this year's US National Book Award winner for
fiction, Jonathan Franzen's _The Corrections_. The word is
getting out!

"The beauty of the Internet was that Chip could post whole-cloth
fabrications
without troubling to check even his spelling. Reliability on
the Web was
ninety-eight percent a function of how slick and cool your site
looked.
Although Chip personally wasn't fluent in Web, he was an
American under
forty, and Americans under forty were exquisite judges of what
was slick and
cool and what was not."

p 437 Jonathan Franzen _The Corrections_ New York: Farrar,
Straus and
Giroux, 2001.
