TARGET, GEN-> help with a picture book title

Okay here I go - I have a teacher looking for a picture book to use with
her third grade. She remembers that is has to do with a child who is not
satisfied with his parents and his home (she thinks) and the child works
his way through larger and larger entities  community, country right up to
the world. The child realizes nothing is perfect and then comes back
through these same entities and is happy with what he (or she) has. She
said it would be good for discussing cultures and differences and
tolerance. Does anybody have a clue about  what book this is? If you do,
please respond directly to me. Thanks.
