I have missed the beginning of this thread on coffee. Such strong opinions here, like strong brew! I have had great experience with allowing and encouraging food and drink at lunchtime in a small portion of the library. I see a lot more students than I would if they were prohibited from dining and I have only once had a problem with cleanup. Since my students are actively involved in the arts and have long days, some until 7PM or even later if they are working actors, the "library cafeteria" gives them a chance to relax, eat and study at the same time. One vote for adapting rules to the circumstances and not trying to fit the student to the rule.
