Your tech support is right. The only way you are going to run AR from a
networked database is to grant all rights to anyone using it. Isolate the AR
program in a partition of its own then grant the appropriate rights to that
area.

We have had a number of problems running AR because of the security
concerns. We use Mac Manager. It turns out that a Novell network glitch
causes everything in the network directory to be deleted by a user if the
system crashes when the partition is being mounted. When we run the system
on our older Macs with At Ease running, we are all set. At Ease prevents
students from seeing all the files in the directory where they were granted
rights. Of course if they log in to one of our Windows stations, we are in
trouble.
