An 8th grader is looking for the title of a book she read in 5th grade. Here is what she remembers: A young girl loses her father and dreams about him fixing a picket fence. She moves to a 2-story house in a small town. She explores the garden next door with the girl next door where they find Snowball (a white longhaired kitten) and a box with a porcelain doll inside. The wicked old lady who owns the house takes the doll away from them and forbids them from entering the garden. They do go into the garden and are caught in a time warp where they meet a young girl dying of consumption. They discover that the doll belonged to the dying girl but the old lady (as a young girl) "borrowed" it from her and didn't get a chance to return it before the girl died. They try to return the doll before the ghost-girl dies in the hopes that history will be changed and the girl will live. When I asked my student to write down what she could remember of the book, she came back with a whole page! About the only thing she can't remember is the author and title! I've looked at the online catalog from her old school and can't find anything that fits. But it is an AR book because she remembers taking the test. Any help with this one would be appreciated. -- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Melissa Davis Librarian Splendora Middle School Splendora I.S.D. 26175 FM 2090 Splendora, TX 77372 Internet: mbdavis@tenet.edu PHONE: (713)689-2853 mbdavis@splendora.k12.tx.us FAX: (713)689-8445 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-= All postings to LM_NET are protected under copyright law.
