HIT:forgotten passwords

Thanks to all 28 of you who responded to my request. There were a number =
of good suggestions and I have summarized them.
1. Supervisor keeps a log of passwords on computer and a printed copy
2. Student's telephone number
3. Several use student ID numbers or a combination of ID numbers and =
social security numbers or last 5 digits of ss number
4. Student's telephone number
5. Student's birth date-day, month, year-some with a combination of =
birth date and social security number
6. Card file or log with each student's ID number, accessed by only =
"computer guy" & librarians
7. Student drops a "fix" form in box in office. Once a day Tech Services =
picks them up & sets a password (1234567), which the student changes. 24 =
hr. turn around time
8. $5.00 fee for the second time student forgets
9. Small school uses a generic password for everyone
10. Student writes password in planner & Ed. Tech. has copy of passwords
11. Tech administrators have a password protected Word document on the =
server with passwords listed
12. If student forgets, he/she must make a donation to a cause sponsored =
by the school
13. Instructs students in memory techniques
14. Student selects password, then writes a clue in handbook or on ID =
card.
