We've all talked about finding good examples to show students. On NPR radio I heard an interview with Susan Wyderko, who runs the investor education office at the Securities and Exchange Commission. She was talking about hoax sites that they have planted purposefully to teach people how to watch out for scams. Their sites look real and "feel" real to the people searching the Internet for investment opportunities. If you want to hear the radio interview... go to www.npr.org They have 6 yrs of archived materials. Do a search for her by name and then the date of Jan 30, 2002. The hoax site is Mcwhortle ... there's a link at the bottom of the interview site. (www.mcwhortle.com) When the people are ready to invest and click on the button... they get a little surprise! They have been SCAMMED ... and then are educated about using the Internet for investment purposes. Hope this might be useful to some of you.
