Hi everyone, once again I've come to you for help. Our school is looking for titles for the 7th and 8th graders that deal with young people of color (first and foremost, African Americans) who are middle class and who face middle class issues. There is some concern that much of the literature about African Americans focuses on characters who are poor, victims of racism in the ghettos, etc. Do any of you have some titles that might meet our needs--that do not portray people of color as lower class, single parent families with drugs always hovering in the background? Thank you in advance for any help you can give, from Helen Dittmer, Redwood Day School, Oakland, CA <hdittme@ix.netcom.com> =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-= All postings to LM_NET are protected under copyright law.
