Thanks to all of you that were so helpful in my search... I will be
trying all of these suggestions to see which will work best for my graduate
class assignment.

     Thanks,

Tami,

I copy and paste these onto word doc. and then use the tools there to change
things around to suit me.

I don't know of any sites that let you manipulate the graphic organizers
before you print them, but here's what I did: I went to some graphic
organizer sites to look at samples and decided which one worked best for my
task. I then used the drawing toolbar in Microsoft Word to reconstruct it.
It was easier than I expected! You can make circles, ovals, squares, and
type in words. Hope this helps!

Dear Tami,

If you have the money, buy Inspiration software and install it on your
computer. It allows you to make your own graphic organizers and use graphic
images also. You can download a free 30 day trial by going to
www.inspiration.com I use it all the time for brainstorming, illustrating
statistical data, processes and student handouts. I got my copy of
Inspiration from Scholastic Software Club for $10 cheaper than the discount
computer stores were offering it.

I found this site by doing a Google search. There are many more sites to
examine. Just go to Google and type in graphic organizer and see what you
come up with.

That would take a bit of pretty fancy coding and some plug-ins I would
think.

What I have done :
1. open an example on the web (do a search for Graphic Organizers
download for sites)
2. open Word and go into the Draw mode
3. use the web version for ideas to draw (sorry about the pun) from

I do this because none of the GOs ever seem 'perfect'. Too many boxes,
not enough webs, too closed, too open, etc. And it allows me to save my
version. In elementary library, I was finding I would modify the file
even between classes has I found weak points or to adjust for time, etc.

What I've discovered also is that the process of actually creating one,
even with a rough idea in front of me, seems to generate a bit more
criticality to the thinking process. I've also learned more graphics
tricks, emphasizing boxes, lines, etc, the help the kids follow the
process better.
