TECH->information needed on audio cassette recorder with mic for meeting use

Hi folks - Our Superintendent's secretary is looking for a good quality
(although not too pricey) audio tape recorder and microphone that she can
use to record board meetings and hearings that need saving. She needs a
mic with a fairly long cable (8 - 10 feet) so that in different settings
she can record the voices she needs to by seeting the equipment up in the
center of the table. I have looked in several catalogs and there are all
sorts. What I want to know is whether any of you have used a set up that
you like and works well. Thanks very much for any information you can
provide me as we need this rather quickly.
