If you know anyone with an MLS who is contemplating school libraries, the University of Texas at Dallas (note - DALLAS, NOT AUSTIN) offers a post-baccalaureate secondary teaching certificate program. At least they did 10 years ago when I needed it! IF your Bachelor's degree is in a secondary teaching field - i.e., English (like mine), History, Science, etc. you are required to take only FOUR education courses: Classroom Management, Curriculum, Education Law, one education elective (I took AtRisk Students). Then you student teach in your field at the secondary level for 10 weeks, take your ExCet exam and you have a Texas teaching certificate to go with your MLS! My Curriculum professor was disappointed I was "wasting" myself in the library - she really wanted to see me teaching English! -- Leah Hawkins, Librarian West Hurst Elementary Hurst, TX leahleah@attbi.com =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-= All postings to LM_NET are protected under copyright law.
