I am submitting a grant application to buy some new shelving for our
library. The organization distributing the grants wants the "story" of
our library, why we need the shelving, and details about the benefits
the new shelving would bring. If any of you have written grant proposals
for facilities or shelving and could share your "narratives" or
statistics or whatever other information you used to get the grant, I
would appreciate the help. I will be spending the morning looking for
resources online, but I figure some of you will have already done this.
Currently, our library is in a hallway, we have no tables and only very
tall shelving. This year, we will be moving into a real room, with
tables and a mixture of short and taller shelving (we are a PS-5
elementary school). I want to communicate the importance of having a
real space for the library and having enough shelving (some of our books
are shelved two rows deep right now) and the right sizes of shelving by
presenting data, statistics, research, etc. showing the benefits. If you
have any suggestions, resources, or samples you can send me, I'd
appreciate it, and I will post a hit! (The grant proposal is due on
Friday, 8/2.)
