"Intellectual Character: What It Is, Why It Matters, and How to Get It," (John Wiley & Sons; ISBN: 078795683X; 2002) is a fascinating new book by Ron Ritchhart, a researcher at Harvard's Graduate School of Education. According to the author, people who are consistently: --curious, --open-minded, --reflective, --strategic, --skeptical, and --willing to search for truth and understanding tend to be the most intelligent. He believes that Intelligence is more related to "patterns of behavior" than to innate ability. Those characteristics sure sound like the description of an effective librarian to me!
