What you didn't know as a first year librarian

I have had the pleasure of hearing from many people who have just been hired
as a new librarian for next school year, like myself.  We are all excited,
but a bit nervous about what to expect.  I think we would all very much
appreciate the advice from all the veteran librarians out there.

If you don't mind.......Please answer the following questions and I will post
a hit:

What are some things that you were surprised about concerning your first year
out of the classroom and into the library?
If you knew then what you know now, what would you have done differently your
first year (or day) as the new school librarian?
