LM_NET Archive

Sorry, I tried to access the "scheduling" archives this morning, but am =
getting a blank screen for any type of search.

Dear LM_Netters, =20

We are an elementary school of nearly 1200 students. We are very =
blessed to have 2 media specialists, a tech specialist (who is not a =
teacher position) and a full time clerk. We are currently scheduled to =
provide scheduled activity classes for 1 1/2 slots in the activity wheel =
each day, which computes to 11 classes each day shared between the 2 =
media specialists in a 7-day rotation. The other special teachers in =
the activity wheel are: art, music, 2 P.E. slots per day and 1/2 slot =
for guidance. This does not allow much flexibility for collaboration =
with classroom teachers for special projects and research. First, we =
have only our planning periods which could be converted to collaboration =
(yikes!) and second, with double classes scheduled in the media center =
and adjoining computer lab, there would be no physical space or time for =
teachers to come in as needed for research and =
wordprocessing/presentation computer work (worse!). (We also do TV =
production in early morning & afternoon + 4 lunch duties for 2 media =
specs, tech spec, media clerk) We can still accommodate open checkout =
because of our high number of volunteers and full time clerk, but this =
scheduling situation is very disconcerting to our desire for needs-based =
collaboration with students and teachers. If you have a school of this =
size and have a workable solution to flexible or semi-flexible =
scheduling, please share your plan with us! We want to approach our =
administration with ideas & solutions, not whining!

Thanks so much!
