I had a volunteer stop by the other day looking for the title of a book she
remembers as being her favorite when she was in 5th grade (late 50s? early
60s?) She would love to locate a copy of the book if she can. I'm afraid I
did not have a clue as to the book's title, but offered to run it past this
group.

Here is what she remembers: It takes place in India or China, the main
character is a young boy who is working very hard to save enough money to buy
slippers (red or gold in color). His sister becomes sick and he uses the
money to buy a blanket for her instead.

Any ideas? Thanks for any suggestions you might have!
