03/04/02 - MIKE EISENBERG INVITED TO ATTEND 21ST CENTURY LITERACY SUMMIT IN
GERMANY

Mike Eisenberg will join international leaders in public policy, business
and academia March 7-8th in Berlin, Germany to consider the sensible use of
information technology and the Internet in all levels of modern society. Th=
e
21st Century Literacy Summit (http://www.21stcenturyliteracy.org/) is hoste=
d
by the Bertelsmann Foundation and AOL/Time Warner Foundation.

Both organizations recognize that 21st century literacy skills will include
the ability to "use new technology, to critically assess and understand
content, to creatively leverage digital media, and to have the ability to
help shape social communication interaction." Presenters and moderators wil=
l
include representatives from Germany, Belgium, France, Spain, USA, Great
Britain, Czech Republic, and Switzerland.

The purpose of the 21st Century Literacy summit is to present and discuss
international examples of current efforts to assess and process information=
.
A special focus for this summit is to identify effective ways to acquire th=
e
necessary skills and experience to be literate in the 21st century.

"Learning the Big6 information technology process is a life-long literacy
skill because it is flexible and transferable to almost any situation that
requires information processing" says Mike Eisenberg, co-creator of the Big=
6
Skills. "We=B9re honored to receive an invitation to this international
summit. It is a reflection of the successful use of the Big6 in schools
across the nation and around the world."

Developed by Mike Eisenberg and Bob Berkowitz, the Big6 is the most
widely-known and widely-used approach to teaching information and technolog=

skills in the world. Used in thousands of K-12 schools, higher education
institutions, and corporate and adult training programs, the Big6
information problem-solving model is applicable whenever people need and us=

information. The Big6 integrates information search and use skills along
with technology tools in a systematic process to find, use, apply, and
evaluate information to specific needs and tasks.
