POSITION DESCRIPTION

TITLE:   Information Resources Specialist

REPORTS TO:  Executive Director for Educational Programming


RESPONSIBILITIES:

 Building-Level Programs
Works cooperatively with principal in recruiting, screening, and
interviewing library media specialists and library media assistants.

Provides leadership and guidance to library media staff in program planning
and outcomes, curriculum integration, collection development, financial
planning and resources, staff development, facility design and use, and
implementation of technology.

Works to secure resources that support program outcomes.

Develops, revises, and administers procedures for providing and supporting
instructional audio-visual equipment selection and purchases for district
buildings.

District Services
Interviews, selects, and evaluates classified district library media
personnel.

Oversees resources and services to building library media programs and
classrooms including, central processing and cataloging, instructional
television programming, off-air taping, loan of equipment, and productive
services.

Provides for the selection, cataloging, and access of materials for the
District Instructional Resource Center.

Works cooperatively with the Adventures in Imagination Program and oversees
literacy activities, such as author/illustrator visits, and other events in
cooperation with the district-wide business-education partnership program.

Planning, Programming, and Policies
Develops approved policies and oversees implementation regarding, but not
limited to, intellectual freedom and challenges, copyright, collection
development, and confidentiality.

Works cooperatively with planning committees, architects, principals, and
library media specialists on needs of library media programs and media
center design for new construction and/or remodeling of facilities.

Technology
Promotes the use of technology as an information resource, library
management tool, and an efficient, effective means to provide access and
share materials throughout the district.

Coordinates all professional development for technology use.

Works with Educational Programming and ITS Departments in providing training
for district staff in the curricular and instructional use of technology .


Professional
Participates in district activities including curriculum development and
mapping.

Encourages participation state, regional, and national educational and
professional library media organizations

Works cooperatively with public and academic library personnel.

Promotion of Library Media Programs and Policies
Conducts staff development workshops on building and district library media
programs for teachers, administrators, and support staff.

Publicizes library media programs and services through district publications
and on the district Web site.

Monitors and informs the administration, board of education, and community
through reports and presentations on the impact of library media programs on
the instructional process at the building and district levels and status of
district compliance with regional, state, and national library media
standards and accreditation requirements.

Publicizes notable building-level and district library media programs and
events in local media as well as professional publications.

Encourages participation in local, state, and national celebrations such as
National Children’s Book Week, Teen Read Week, National Library Week, and
American Education Week.


CRITICAL SKILLS
Possess and maintain licensure (certification) as an administrator in the
state of Kansas

Ability to speak clearly and audibly to various groups expressing ideas in a
logical and forthright manner

Possess composition skills suitable for producing written communication for
a variety of readers

Ability to quickly analyze a situation and provide prompt advice

Ability to respond to information requests in a courteous, timely and
helpful manner

Ability to perform job responsibilities using appropriate software on
district computer system and communication equipment

Ability to manage job responsibilities while meeting established deadlines

Ability to work constructively and cooperatively with others

Performs other tasks as assigned by Executive Directors of Educational
Programming

The tasks listed in this position description are subject to change at the
discretion of the superintendent


QUALIFICATIONS:  K-12 Library Media Specialist Certification
   Administrative Certification preferred

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Twelve-month contract. Salary and work year to be
established by the Board of Education

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with
provisions of Board policy on evaluation
