Target: Name of Knife in Subtle Knife

A student came in today to look up the meaning of a word something like
aeshettar or something like that.  He said it was the name of the knife
either in The Subtle Knife or The Amber Spyglass.  He thinks it is a real
word and was interested in finding the meaning and origin of the word.
