When I began my present position back in August, 2000. I immediately began weeding, checking circ stats as I went. The Beatrice Sparks books were all scattered throughout nonfiction depending on topic (drugs, AIDS, cults, etc.). They had not circulated in years and, truth be told, were rather seedy looking. I immediately ordered fresh new copies and tossed the old ones. Then, I had them shelved on the paperback spinner racks with all the series books (in the A's for Anonymous). I now have trouble keeping them on the shelves--they're always out. BTW, Sparks has a new one coming out, Kim: Empty Inside, about eating disorders. And despite my earlier irreverent comment about Alice being the cause of my descent into the world of drugs and prostitution, I did read it and saw the TV movie and absolutely loved the story. Also, I used the book when I taught "Alternative Ed" before getting my MLS (1999). The kids always loved the book.
