I am fascinated by this discussion. In the interests of full
disclosure, I was an editor at SLJ for four years in the late
80s and early 90s, and now review both children's and adult
books for Booklist.

Do any of you use Booklist? It is purely a review medium,
with interviews and so on, but not news and features. It
comes out twice monthly, and costs $79.95 per year. It does
not publish negative reviews -- in other words, if a review
appears in Booklist, it is a recommendation. None of you
have mentioned it. Is it not perceived as a tool for school
librarians?
