We subscribed to both Booklist and SLJ until a few years ago. Both were
wonderful. When budget cuts forced us to cut our magazine budget I dropped
Booklist. I hung on to SLJ because it was the most school oriented of the
two. With additional budget cuts scheduled for next year it is on my list
of things to cut. I will miss it but the cost is beyond our means.
I have discovered that Amazon often includes reviews of materials. I use
them to find ISBN numbers, publishers, etc. They often have reviews from
several review magazines. I can compare the different reviews and read
reviews from readers. It is sometimes interesting to see the difference
between what student readers and professional reviewers think of a book. It
