Elem: Help identify this story?

One of our school aids is looking for a title that fits this description.

A pig wants to be a cowboy and goes out west with just enough money for his
trip.  When he gets there, he befriends a purple horse who is destined for
an ill fate (glue factory?)  The pig uses his money to save his friend, but
has not money to return home.  The horse offers to let his new friend ride
him home.

Any clue?
