I am requesting information ( a personal situation) concerning Lemony
Snicket's stories about the Baudelaire orphans. Recently I sent a set of
those books to my granddaughter. She and her family, my daughter,
belongs to a religion which does not permit her to read anything with
magic or witchcraft, etc., so I am always careful about what I send. I'm
quite sure I had given her the first one and she liked it. A few days
ago I got an e-mail from her mother saying she does not want to read the
books because they are "spiritistic" and what should they do with the
books. I also have read the first one and do not remember anything of
that nature. Can someone enlighten me? Do they contain
magic/witchcraftery/whatever that would make them objectional? I intend
to tell her to donate them to their school library, but I am curious
about exactly what would make her reluctant to read them. I am at a
high school and don't have immediate access to the books. If you can
shed any light for me, please respond off-list. Thank you for your
help.
