Hello, all!

I am constantly amazed at the scope of knowledge in this group. You have
helped me out many times through the various discussions. Now, I have one
more question: are there any LM_NETters in Australia who have distance
learning capabilities in their schools? One of our middle school teachers
who teaches 6th grade social studies (11-12 year-olds) hopes to have another
"student exchange" in his classroom. This year, he has had two exchanges
with students in the London area. (Thank you, Karen Hans and the St.
Martin-in-the-Fields High School!) The information our technology teacher
has given me about what is needed is a distance learning lab or a v-tel cart
(IVDL). The type of connection our school system uses is
(ATM)-(DS-3)-(other)
ATM = asynchronous transfer mode

We are in the Eastern Standard time zone (going to daylight savings time the
first weekend in April), 5 hours behind Greenwich time. I realize it may
take some juggling to make sure students are in both schools at the same
time.

I hope this isn't too tall an order. It is so wonderful to enable students
to be in contact with students in other countries during real time, don't
you think? What a great way to help change our world a few people at at time
and help the students think of other countries in terms of real people
instead of statistics and maps. Thank you for your input.
