Of course LM_NET was the right place to go -- my colleague is sure I'm a = veritable fountain of knowledge. I have a sneaking suspicion that I've = missed at least one answer, but I know it won't re-appear until I send = this... thanks bunches, folks! --------------------- Call It Courage by Armstrong Sperry (set in S. Pacific Island, middle = school level reading... s a Newbery Medal book ... GREAT BOOK!) Blue Skin of the Sea by Graham Salisbury (set in Hawaii and middle school = level) Under the Blood Red Sun by Graham Salisbury (set in Hawaii, about = relationship between Japanese-American and Caucasian boys during WWII/Pearl Harbor ... upper = elementary reading level) -------- Hawaii by Michener? --------------------------- Lord of the Deep by Graham Salisbury ----------------- Leaving one-foot island, and, Return to one-foot island, both by Graeme = Lay. About an island girl who goes to NZ for schooling, and doesn't find it = easy to adjust. I haven't read the second, but I guess it is about either how she gets back home, or how she copes once there. --------------------------------- The very best book I've seen recently is Graham Salisbury's _Lord of the Deep_, about Hawaiians today in various mixes & minglings. = It's an _excellent_ story. ----------------------------------------------- "Name me nobody" by Lois-Ann Yamanaka --------------------------------------------- Pene du Bois, William. The twenty one balloons. -- New York : Puffin Books, 1947. Relates the incredible adventures of Professor William Waterman = Sherman, who in 1883 sets off in a balloon across the Pacific, survives the = volcanic eruption of Krakatoa andis eventually picked up in the Atlantic. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-= All postings to LM_NET are protected under copyright law.
