Dear Colleagues - This is what my research and the four helpful folks who responded. If anyone else has anyting to add, I'd appreciate it. Particularly if your experiences do NOT find leasing a good option. Many thanks. Julie For leasing: * Builds number of PC's quickly * Cost spread = (+/-) the cost to purchase * Support costs for equipment rise exponentially when it is left in service beyond its normal expected life. * Can buy at end of lease for $1/batch * Using a leasing strategy keeps a school district's network and hardware relatively standardized and current * good quality - good operation * access to current computers * the computers stay under warranty * new up-to-date computers every 2-3 year * most major companies offer leasing program * more computer for the expenditure Against leasing: * some difficulty with paperwork and type of product * Tied to a lease - loose flexibility in spending For buying: * we own them - once paid for, their ours Against buying * computers depreciate rapidly * upkeep may exceed budget ***************************************** Julie Hulten, Library Media Specialist Mark T.
