<html><div>Hello,</div>
<br>
<div>Jack Gantos worked--and I mean, worked--in our school for two days
this week. Jack really connects with kids, parents, teachers and
administrators.&nbsp; When Jack met with our middle school Language Arts
classes, he emphasized the crucial role of journal writing for beginning
writers. Jack uses his hilarious stories from the Jack Henry books to
illustrate to kids that they, too, have experiences in their lives worth
writing about. He shows them how to accomplish&nbsp; that in a journal.
In addition, Jack shows the kids how to apply the necessary structure,
the elements of literature,&nbsp; to give their content
&quot;bones&quot;. Jack was a big hit with all six sessions of students
and Language Arts teachers. Jack is also generous with his time when
approached by kids, parents and teachers during his &quot;down
time.&quot;</div>
<br>
<div>Jack also gave a presentation to our PTA --crucial in my estimation,
since they foot the bill--and worked with students in HS writing classes.
I know he also does faculty inservice. Unfortunately, we could not fit
this in. Jack is a busy man, currently booking for the fall of 2003. If
you are interested, I recommend him very highly.</div>
