I'm having much difficulty keeping 6th graders motivated, on task, and excited about reading. They are a tough crew - a fact that everyone who teaches them agrees with, and have never really been excited about library class. This is my first year teaching them and teaching in this school - so I don't have a lot of feedback about previous curriculum used for library and reading skills. Any tactics, ideas, that you have had success with for this age level would be greatly appreciated. Behavior is a problem - and the boys in the class are pro's at working together to sabotage teaching efforts. I've had contact with many of their parents - but it doesn't seem effective. HELP! I really appreciate your feedback since administration and teachers here also seem stumped. Thanks in advance.
