Hi;
I have an urgent request for information from all you experienced
computerized librarians! Our school has been the recipient of a =
Pennsylvania
LSTA (Library Services and Technology Act) grant to establish a computer
network of 8 stations to be linked to a new server at the signout desk, =
with
Internet access, electronic card catalog, word processing, among other
items. One of our original goals was to purchase a Grolier encyclopedia =
CD,
with a 50 user license so our entire school could access this source. We
sent the purchase order, (after verifying all arrangements with a sales
rep.), only to receive word that the company has since discontinued the =
CD
and only offers online products. Our tech person feels the price for =
what
they're offering is too expensive for only a year's worth of use. (The =
CD we
could have used at least in house for a longer time span before it =
became to
outdated.)
Does anyone have any other suggestions/recommendations of a =
worthwhile
encyclopedia on CD? We had allotted $899 to cover this and cannot go =
over
this amount. If we don't find another source and spend the money, we =
will
have to return the funds and do without. :>( I will post a hit from =
any
received responses.
