TARGET - closing two schools, merging libraries

The school board voted earlier this month to close two elementary
schools and merge the schools into two neighboring schools.

I'm interested to learn from any of you who have had to deal with not
only the tension and politics of merging two libraries, but the
practicalities of merging, weeding, card catalogs (none of the 4
libraries is automated), etc.
