Thanks to all who have responded - through the variety of responses, I have
a better grasp of the issue: architects and Library Media Specialists are
often at odds, because they do not understand and in some cases don't care
about how the LMC functions. Now I can target my reasoning to their blind
spots.

Re: the issue of pods vs computer labs - thanks again for the input, but I
imagine that THAT issue is best answered by style. Having just lived for 3
and a half years with a huge U, and having finally gotten my computers
grouped in "pods" of 8 - with (I'll admit) one long row of twelve along a
wall. I LOVE them!!!!!!!

I find supervision is easier - there is less crowding in the "corners"
(there are no corners) - there is actually less socializing, because they
are not on top of one another, use of the computers is much more flexible
and I can accommodate more groups, doing a variety of things, as well as
study hall students, because there is more separation.

I'm out there anyway, circling with the teachers who bring the classes,
because there's always someone to help and I like to know what they've
found, so I can use it to help someone else or can add it to the webpage for
general use. I seldom work from the circulation desk, so seeing the
computers from there is a moot point.

Again many thanks to all who shared -

regards,

Julie
