Netters, I have checked several Patricia Polacco websites (her official one and others posted by publishers) but have not found an answer to this question: Why did she change her style of using plain pencil-type illustrations for people's faces and hands in her early books to the "standard" style of using color for the flesh areas? I checked the LM_NET archives but the number of listings was overwhelming, and the subject lines didn't seem to address this query. I noticed this change in her personal artistic style in the early 1990's. We've been enjoying "Rechenka's Eggs" as a read-aloud this week in the library, which features her original style. Our upper graders have enjoyed her recent book "Thank You Mr. Falker" as it is one of the California Young Reader Medal nominees this year in the Intermediate Picture Book category.
