I have barcoded software, videos, CD's, math & science
manipulatives & equipment, etc., for years. It boils
down to having accountability on the teachers' part.
Anything that belongs to the school that is used by
teachers is checked out through the library. That way,
at the end of the year, if a teacher is transferring,
retiring, moving, etc., that teacher is actually
ACCOUNTABLE for the things they took to their classroom
to use. Being clear in the library is one of the items
on the end of the year checklist - along with turning in
their keys! Several times throughout the year I print
out a list of what each teacher has checked out - it
reminds them when they get a list with several hundred
items on it that maybe they really are finished with
some of them!!
