While we don't have a substitute's handbook, although I think it is great
idea, I would like to suggest that you include the following things I would
have found very helpful when I did some substitute teaching a few years ago.
        - A map of the school with Office, nurse's room, teacher's lunchroom, break
room and restrooms noted
        - A bell schedule - indicate when sub may go to lunch - or have free
period
        - Who and where to send students for discipline problems - and what
guidelines there may be (how serious the offense)
        - A list of faculty and staff with room numbers
        - Safety, fire and tornado information ( even though you may have it posted
on the wall)
        - Playground, cafeteria or other duties (even if sub will not be doing
it) - where there duty is and what they need to know about that duty
 bells, rules,)
        - A folder should also be given with:
schedule for the class(es), lesson plans, seating diagrams, any
needed
info concerning any of the students ( who has health problems (needn't be
specific unless emergency care may be needed), who should be allowed to
leave without permission, etc., who should never be allowed to"whatever"),
where supplies are to be found, any special "rules" for the classroom, who
is nearby that can be asked for help or if any questions( so they don't
leave the room unattended to go to the office

Subject: Target: Misc: Handbook for Substitutes

Dear Fellow Media Specialists,

I know this is veering off the topic slightly, but our Central Office is
trying to put together a substitute handbook and was asking for suggestions.
Do any of you already have such a handbook? If you do, could you please
tell me what kind of information is included?

If there is interest, I will post a hit of the replies I receive.

TIA,

Vaneesa
