I am sorry it has taken me so long to post a HIT for this. My husband = was admitted to the hospital with blood poisoning last week and this is = the first chance I have had to get back to this subject. (He is much = better.) Thanks to all who responded! I just purchased a Panasonic AG-188U for $619.99 plus tax, etc. We = love it, but I hear they are discontinuing it. We ordered it in Dec. = and got it in March due to backorder. Love it! First thing, is there a Ritz Camera near you? Maybe a Wolf Camera? They = can be very helpful. I used to work as a sales associate with Ritz, and we = sold all kinds of video cameras. If they no longer carry the full-sized ones, = go with a Panasonic VHS-C. They come with the adaptor for your VCR, and = they run around $300-$700, depending if you want some special features. Ritz and Wolf have websites. Check them out. That may help. Good luck,. I just did this & could only find 1 brand of full-size VHS=20 video camera. There were none available locally. I pulled my AV = catalogs,=20 found several that had a variety of cameras, but when I called to check = on=20 availability--I was told by 5 different vendors that there is only 1=20 manufacturer still making the full-size VHS recorder. I think it was RCA = (or maybe Panasonic), but I'm at home & can't be sure about that. = Anyway,=20 it is an industrial version, comes with a case & was $695. I bought one=20 because our old one is shot & it is the format that we wanted. If I had = it=20 to do over, I think I would run an ad in the local paper & see if some = good=20 citizen has an old one in working order that they would donate. If you are not interested in doing video editing on a computer, I = commend you on your choice of a vhs vcr, but finding one that uses full-sized tapes = is not as easy as it once was. Over the years, I've used various = Panasonic models. When I checked the Panasonic website and looked at their = nondigital camcorders, I could not determine whether this camera uses full-sized = tapes or not......... http://www.prodcat.panasonic.com/shop/NewDesign/ModelTemplatePrinter.asp?= ModelID=3D13103 It is better to have full-sized tapes, though, so that you can pop the = tapes into any VCR without having to first find an adapter. We use Panasonics and are always pleased. We're happy with our Hitachi 6500A cameras. They take regular VHS tapes, = not the VHS-C. Stick with cameras that take the regular VHS tape - don't = even consider others. RCA sells a camera that is virtually identical to = the=20 Hitachi. Go with the one with the better dealer. Purchase quickly! I just read an article that no electronics = manufactuer has new models in production. We use Panasonic AG-188 and they are = good. The model number is a few years old so may not apply today. Check with = the AV vendor you usually do business with. Thanks again for all your help!
