Hi folks,

This part brag, part suggestion.

It was good to see my Mankato school district identified as a "Gold =
Medal
School." Note that one of the qualities identified as a quality =
indicator is
"above average expenditures for library media services..." as well as =
some
other important attributes such as a reasonable use of standardized =
tests.

While a school can't apply for this award, it is worth pointing out to
administrators that strong library programs are one of the identifiers =
of
quality schools when independent assessments are made. The information =
at
SchoolMatch is targeted at _parents_ who are trying to choose a place to
live based on the quality of the schools in a particular area. In this =
era
of school choice and the recognition by business of the need for a
high-quality workforce, school and community leaders should be sensitive =
to
such recognition and why that recognition is given.

All the best,

Doug
