Yes, most of the students actually WILL use the bags. After several
incidents of books damaged in backpacks (mostly by leaking water bottles and
the dreaded juice drink boxes) I handed out gallon-sized freezer Ziploc bags
to every student in the school. Each bag has the student's name on it, and
is reused each library visit. If a bag is damaged or lost, it is easily
replaced, since most families have such bags at thome, and I have a few
spares for those who don't. I also have several two-gallon sized bags which
I use for those extra large books. Those bags are returned with the books,
and are reused for other large books.

I realize that not all the students are using their bags every time, but one
fact remains -- I have not had a single damaged book returned since I
instituted the Ziploc bag policy in January.
