BOARD OF EDUCATION DIVISION OF FINANCE, HUMAN RESOURCES AND SUPPORT SERVICES BUFFALO, NEW YORK 14202 RECRUITMENT BULLETIN 01-60 SUPERVISOR OF LIBRARIES APRIL 22, 2002 NOTICE OF POSITION POSITION: The Superintendent of Schools, Marion Canedo, is interested in receiving applications from qualified candidates for the position of: SUPERVISOR OF LIBRARIES/DIRECTOR OF BSLS APPLICATION: Candidates must complete an administrator's application form, available at the Bureau of Human Resources (716) 851-3519 and must mail the application, a resume, and credentials to: Superintendent of Schools: ATTENTION: Laura Dudley, Executive Director for Human Resources, 720 City Hall, Buffalo, New York 14202. QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must hold a Bachelor and Master degree, a permanent teaching certificate as a School Library Media Specialist and a New York State District Administrator Certificate. EXPERIENCE: Candidate must have completed a minimum of three years of approved and appropriate teaching and/or supervision as a certified School Library Media Specialist. Experience in grant proposal writing, library automation, collaboration with other agencies, and use of online information tools is essential. DUTIES: The Supervisor of Libraries will administer the School Library System program; facilitate the development of leadership and technical skills of all certified library media staff as defined in NYS Regulations; maintain union catalog and interlibrary loan program; and assure effective delivery of materials within the system. Facilitate the development, implementation and evaluation of all library media programs to ensure congruency with the entire written, taught and tested curriculum. The Supervisor will ensure that the system's resources are managed efficiently and appropriately; become active in community affairs to develop a close working relationship between the city's public and private schools and the community at large; work with representative Council and Central Office; cooperate with other library systems in resource sharing; and act as a liaison to SED and implement a cooperative collection development plan. The Supervisor will also assist in the planning and implementation of the district's professional development program and model the personal and professional expectations held for district library personnel by demonstrating a commitment to growth and renewal. SELECTION: Appointment will be made by the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the Superintendent following assessment of training. experience, credentials and evaluation of service. Personal interviews shall be scheduled where appropriate. SALARY: Administrator's salary schedule. The Board of Education has a residency requirement.
