I'd be really surprised that ERIC would have popups. (didn't when I just checked) Often, if you have been to a site with popups there will be an active window showing in your bottom bar (assuming a Win machine). Clicking on it won't change anything. Then try right clicking and choosing 'close' While those popup or under windows are annoying and can be confusing, there are now Flash productions that drop down, roll across, or any number of things right on your main window. Often you have to wait for a part of it to run before a close mark even shows up. For some of these sites it is best to 'vote with your mouse'. Find an equivalent site without the obnoxious stuff, then let your original choice know you've found another resource. -----Original Message----- From: School Library Media & Network Communications [mailto:LM_NET@LISTSERV.SYR.EDU] On Behalf Of Madeline L. Buchanan Sent: Thursday, May 30, 2002 4:43 PM To: LM_NET@LISTSERV.SYR.EDU Subject: Annoying popups I have been having problems with annoying popups coming up as I access various web sites including the LM_NET archives. I even tried deleting the cookies and managed to mess up the time and temperature icon from Weather Underground on my web site so ended up having to redo it. Norton's does not detect a virus so it can't be that. I know that popups occur with some web sites but tonight I had one when I went to the archives and read the first message from LM_NET. Is there a solution? -------------------------------------------------------------------- Madeline L. Buchanan Library Media Specialist W. J.
