Thank you to all who responded to my HELP! request regarding "What do
you do with third grade? I am feeling a bit more prepared to face off
with the teacher who complained, among other things, that I didn't read
to her kids correctly.

I get three extra "paid" days. Therefore, I have the last due date set
for
two weeks before school lets out. Last year when my inventory
didn't take,
I requested an extra week, and I was paid for it.

I have a ten month contract which is a God-send because I have no
volunteers
or student help during the school year. Basically, it is the
time when I do
weeding, book processing and cataloging of audio visual
materials.
It allows us to open our media center earlier (the 2nd or 3rd
day of school)
and stay open later (the 2nd or 3rd to the last day of school),
so the
students and teachers are able to utilize the media center more
fully.

Please let me know. I feel the same way. The high school library that
always has
summer school always has such a nice looking library because they have
the paid time to get the work accomplished.

I have 10 days of summer work because I am the lead media specialist for
our
district. In this capacity I work with the elementary media
center staff.
I use the ten days for ordering, completing reports, unpacking
orders
technology maintenance, software installation and helping
teachers when
they are in the building. I work on and off, just a few hours at
a time.
It is easy for me to do that since I live a block from the
building.
I also have additional time for curriculum writing with teachers
and
working on the district web site.

I have 15 extended days that I get paid to work in the summer. I do
        inventory, clean, repair, etc.

I do summer library here. The last 2 years we were open on Wednesday
morning,
from 9:30-1:30, to accommodate summer school. This year, we are cutting
our summer school program, so we are going to be open longer, so that
kids
can continue to read and check out all summer. Our hours this summer are

Tuesday and Wednesday 9:00-3:00, with scheduled activities at different
grade levels on Tuesdays. We hope that will bring in some extra kids.

We and the guidance people are on 10 month contracts which means an
extra 1/2
month at the end of regular school year and an extra 1/2 mo. at the
beginning of the school year. My checks are spread throughout the whole
calendar year however.
It'd all be peachy with me if I didn't have to crowd college classes in
YEAR-ROUND to get certified. State of Mo. requires you to at least take
18 hours the first two years, which breaks down to a MIN., of course, of
one 3hr. class per sem. I am taking THE MINIMUM.

I come back to work a week before the teachers and I stay a week after
and
I am paid for these days. It's amazing how much you can get done
in two
        weeks without any interruptions!

I work 10 days longer than the teachers at an additional 5% salary.
