if your school is using a "Balanced Literacy" reading program please respond to the following questions. We are looking only for those who are using a "Reading Block" of 2-3 hours length, ability grouping across grade levels, reading recovery style lessons for poorer readers, a "book room" of materials using a reading recovery style leveling. This could also include schools using the "Success for All" program. We are importing a model from California, and the elementary schools there do not have librarians so we need to find schools outside that state who will share how the libraries fit into the plan. Here are the questions: 1) Does the library close during the block, and do you teach a reading group. 2) Who and how is circulation in the book room handled? 3) Have you been able to fit in using information literacy skills? 5) What would you do differently if you had it to do over? 6) do you have a reading group to teach during the block? 7) What implications do you see in this for all librarians in elementary school? 8) Did this take an anti AR position? Perhaps you will then gradually, without noticing it, live along some distant day into the answers. -- Karen McIntyre,Librarian, kjmcinty@net-serv.com http://www.westmeade.net/Library/westmeade_library_page.htm Westmeade Elementary School 6641 Clearbrook Dr. Nashville, TN 37205 (615) 353-2066. *********************************************************************** Be patient toward all that is unsolved in your heart.
