I think I found what the definition might be:
"Preaching, according to the New Testament, is essentially both didakae and
paraenese. Didakae means teaching, philosophy of life, comprehension.
Paraenese means ethics, action, practice."

Subject: Definition help please

I have a student in my office, and we're trying to find the meaning of =
"paraenese" as used in the following sentence.

"They do show that Christian paraenese preserved for the common ethic of =
the West both the moral family prinicples of Greek popular philosophy =
and those of Jewish halakah." Source: The Politics of Jesus, 1972, =
written by John Howard Yoder
