I am not thinking straight these days for some reason, and I am not an experienced cataloger. Those of you with cataloging experience, the other day I was reviewing some cataloging done under my school's previous librarians. I saw the books "Hucleberry Finn" and "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer." Part of the subjects assigned were "Finn, Huckleberry (Fictitious character)--Fiction" and "Sawyer, Tom (Fictitious character)--Fiction." I realized I had followed similar on other fiction stories. Isn't it obvious that if a subject states ". . . (Fictitious character)" it should be fiction, thus no need to add the "Fiction" to it? Or would you still use it to differentiate among several types of materials, let's say, a videocassette on Tom Sawyer may say "Sawyer, Tom (Fictitious character)--video recordings" and use "Sawyer, Tom (Fictitious character)--Fiction" for "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer"? What are your practices on this? -- Thank you very much and take care, Luis R.
