Hello colleagues: A teacher is using Dreamspeaker as a class novel (gr 11 English- general/ special ed), and the character commits suicide. She has asked for help in 'how to handle this in the classroom", both in terms of lesson planning around the theme and just as an issue, especially as she has some concerns about one student in particular. I have of course encouraged her to speak to our guidance dept, and they may have ideas for the whole class too, but I thought I'd seek your collective advice. I have searched the LM_NET & ERIC archives, and have a nice list of other fiction to read, but would like to be able to give her some experienced advice for ideas for the classroom related to the book and a THEME of suicide (not a personal counselling session).
