During my internship last year, my mentor kept K and 1 in the everybody section. This years first graders in my new school are not happy with this arrangement, and let me know this wasn't how it was done when the nice library lady was there last year! Were my mentor's restrictions the general rule or the exception? Please advise. Nancy, For the first few weeks I put chairs to block the way out of the E section. I tell the kids once I see good behavior I'll move the chairs. I have a big room 70 x 120 and I need to know who can handle it and who can't. Soe kids just go crazy with all the SPACE. It is much easier after I know names and I know who to keep an eye on. Also some kids have such a hard time making a selection I like to have some eye-catching titles out on the tables. I put out a variety - easy and non-fiction, too. Hope this helps you. Karen DeFrank, LMS on summer break - 1.5 days left!
