When I started my job 5 years ago, the first thing I did was make a NON FICTION
ssection for the little one, and put them in the same area as the other picture
books. I don't want to limit them, either, but I have the K-1 graders stay in
this area for 2 reasons:

1. My library is large enough, that I could start to lose children if they
went through the whole library! I know, it's a great problem to have, and I
love it. It's just hard to keep them on task when they are spread through out
the entire place.
2. There is nothing worse than having a parent come to you and complain that
you let little suzie check out a book that is way too hard for her. I hear
that from parents and teachers alike. So, I do try to keep the children into
books that are age level appropriate.

Another thing I've done, is to make a JF section for the 2-3rd graders. I put
all the chapter books that level at 2nd and 3rd grade. It makes it so easy for
them, and it didn't take much extra work. Ok, maybe it did, but it's worth it!
