There were moments when I questioned my own wisdom, but for the most part it worked. I did start sending out quarterly notices - not to have the books returned but as a reminder to the teachers to make sure they were keeping an eye on the books in their care. They responded positively. We did eventually talk the district into allocating some money to help build classroom libraries.
